  • What is a 1031 Exchange?

    A 1031 exchange is a swap of one investment property for another that allows any capital gains taxes to be deferred.  In order for capital gains taxes to be deferred, the two properties must be considered "like-kind", meaning they must be of a similar nature.  However, the properties do not need to have a similar value or quality.
